Used Toner Recycling
University Mail Services collects used toner cartridges from campus departments and sends them to a recycling center for processing. Any used printer cartridge can be set out by the Campus Mail Boxes located in each building for collection by UMS couriers. The UMS couriers bring them back to Mail Services where they are boxed, labeled and sent to a recycling center.
Mark the toner boxes you are recycling with the words Recycled Toner.
Please bag each toner that is not in its original box to ensure the contents do not leak. For a large volume of toners please contact UMS to arrange a pick-up.
Recycled Interdepartmental Envelopes
University Mail Services maintains a supply of interdepartmental envelopes for campus departments to use. Just call UMS at 919-962-1139 or email us at mailservices@unc.edu to have us send your department some envelopes. Please include your Campus Box number.
Waste-Free Mail Program
Every day UMS receives catalogs, magazines and other advertising mail with partial or undeliverable addresses. Those mail pieces are recycled by Mail Services before they even reach the departments. The Waste-Free Mail program (provided by Intra-Mail Network) helps departments control the magazine, catalog and other mass-produced mail pieces that it receives. By providing your contact information and subscription information, you can receive many of these mail pieces digitally or have them not delivered at all.
